Farhan Chak is honoured to serve the residents of Ward Tastawiyiniwak and the rest of Edmonton. Ward Tastawiyiniwak encompasses a diverse range of communities in northwest Edmonton. It is home to a vibrant population of nearly 90,000 Edmontonians and features a mix of residential, commercial, and natural spaces that contribute to the city’s rich cultural and economic fabric.
The name “Tastawiyiniwak” was chosen to reflect the rich history and cultural significance of the area.
Edmonton has been a gathering place for Indigenous Peoples for thousands of years. A committee of Indigenous matriarchs gifted traditional names to the City’s wards to honour these sacred places in Edmonton and to preserve the history for future generations.
The name “Tastawiyiniwak” comes from the Cree language and translates to “the in-between people.” This name is meant to recognize and honour Edmonton’s diverse communities.
The name acknowledges the importance of inclusivity and the contributions of these communities to Edmonton’s growth and identity. By naming this ward Tastawiyiniwak, the City honours Indigenous traditions, language, and the continuing role of diverse peoples in shaping Edmonton’s future.
Ward Tastawiyinwak deserves bold leadership, integrity, and action. Together, we can create a safer, stronger, and more connected community.
A Vision for a Safer, Stronger, and More Connected Community!!

Dear Neighbors,
Thank you for this opportunity to introduce myself. I’m Dr. Farhan Chak—a Professor of Political Science, Author, TEDx Speaker, Poet, and Founder & Director of Veritas Leadership Consultancy. I also serve as Secretary-General of the NGO Kashmir Civitas.
I’m running for Councillor in Ward Tastawiyiniwak in the upcoming municipal elections in October 2025. I invite you to join me in transforming our community, empowering our present, and enriching our future.
"Institutionalized systemic racial persecution...against the people of Kashmir has pushed the world to the edge of nuclear conflict. Torture, unlawful killings, and the denial of basic human rights and freedoms are well-documented by Amnesty, Human Rights Watch, and others. Dr. Chak's skillful analysis explains just how this unresolved conflict threatens global peace."
''As a longtime friend and collaborator with Dr. Farhan Chak, I can attest to his intellect, drive, and most importantly, his natural skill in uplifting the most vulnerable communities. Farhan is more than a natural leader, but one who leads with a clear moral mandate and selflessness that is rare among politicians in Canada, and globally.''
